A case of lead poisoning is presented and recent literatures are reviewed.
A 57-year-old Korean female had been admitted to Han-yang University Hospital in
April 1973, with chief complaints of abdominal colic, headache, weakness, anorexia and
tingling sensation of lower extremities after ingestion of home-made mineral tonic pills.
Laboratory examinations are as followings; anemia with hypochromia and anisocytosis,
reticulocytosis and basophilic stippling of erythrocytes in peripheral blood and bone
marrow. Serum level of lead was 100 §¶/100 §¢ and coproporphyrin in 24 hours urine
was 1100§¶.
After treatment with Ca-EDTA and BAL, symptoms are subsided, basophilic stippling
of erythrocytes are disapeared in peripheral blood and the urine gave a 100§¶/24hr for
coproporphyrin.
